Noel Gallagher performs career-spanning set at NME Awards
Noel Gallagher performed a career-spanning at the NME Awards last night (February 29th), as he picked up the Godlike Genius prize.
The seven-song performance included two early Oasis b-sides – ‘(It’s Good) To Be Free‘ and ‘Half The World Away‘ – as well as four highlights from his debut solo album ‘Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds‘. As ever, he then closed the set with a rendition of the perennial crowd-pleaser ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’.
Gallagher was nominated on the night for the Best Solo Act and Best Album awards, but missed out on both to Florence & The Machine and The Horrors respectively.
Earlier in the night, Kasabian opened up proceedings with a run through of their recent singles ‘Switchblade Smiles‘ and ‘Days Are Forgotten‘, while Florence & The Machine, The Horrors, The Vaccines and The Maccabees also played live at the London ceremony.
Pulp, who were presented with the Outstanding Contribution gong, aired two favourites from their arsenal of classic singles, performing ‘Babies‘ and ‘Mis-Shapes‘.
